Last week, Chaudhary Birender Singh, one of BJP’s seniormost leaders in Haryana and a minister in the Modi 1.0 regime, broke his silence and came out in support of farmers. Singh, who had played a crucial role in brokering peace between protesters and the Centre during the 2016 Jat agitation, spoke to TOI’s Joel Joseph. Excerpts:
