70% of Delhi’s Southern Ridge to be a ‘forest’

Almost 70% of Delhi’s Southern Ridge, spread over around 6,200 hectares, could soon be a notified forest and get legal protection under the Indian Forest Act, 1927. Delhi’s forest and wildlife department has initiated steps to notify nearly 4,400 hectares of it under Section 20 of the Act, declaring it “encumbrance” and encroachment free, officials said.
