Dyeing units give Yamuna the blues

The drains in Ghazipur village have turned blue due to the discharge by illegal dyeing units of untreated effluents rich in phosphate and ammonia compounds. A strong odour also emanates from the drains. This toxic water flows into the Yamuna and is one of the causes of the frothing seen in the river.
