Delhi to take a fresh shot at saving 221 lakes

The Wetland Authority of Delhi (WAD), which has allotted a unique identification number to 1,043 waterbodies in the city, has received requests from departments to “delete” 221 wetlands from the master list as “they do not exist on the ground”. The land-owning agencies have claimed buildings, public services, unauthorised colonies, drains, educational institutes and recreational parks have come up on the land.
